Columbus, OH - Today we were able to demonstrate the Stripe Hog®, Stripe Removal System to numerous ODOT officials from District one and from the central office in Columbus along with Miller Cable, the prime contractor. Miller Cable specializes in roadway lighting, complex traffic signal systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and airport lighting. In this case the road markings needed to be removed and reconfigured to accommodate the new traffic signals that were going up.
This particular project at Exit 161 on 75 North was an ideal situation for us to display the Stripe Hog's® strength on the very thick and hard paint but yet its gentleness on the grooved concrete deck surface.
Notice below a picture that Dan Groh from ODOT took. Notice the shot shows that at some previous time a grinder had been used on this grooved concrete bridge deck. It just happened to be right up next to where we were waterblasting to remove a 24” white transverse line. You can clearly see the big difference in the damaging of the grooved concrete between grinding and waterblasting.

Here were the comments from ODOT’s Bruce Merry (pictured above): The Stripe Hog®, Stripe Removal System was demonstrated on both concrete and asphalt surfaces. On both surfaces the lines were removed quicker and more completely than the traditional line removal methods such as grinding. This method on concrete surfaces is superior from the standpoint of the total removal of the line, the speed of the removal operations, the fact that there is no cleanup required and there is no damage to the surface of the concrete that would occur with other methods. Removal of the line on asphalt does some damage to the surface of the pavement but it is less invasive than grinding while still being faster and more complete than grinding. The removal operations we found to be exactly as shown in the DVD provided by Waterblasting Technologies. The equipment is highly maneuverable. In our demonstration the equipment was used to remove existing auxiliary markings and painted lines of varying widths on both concrete and asphalt. As stated above, this system allows for lines to be removed quickly, requires no cleanup, and provides almost complete line removal.
Thank you ODOT and Miller Cable for the opportunity!
